For this picture I really wanted to capture what Christmas always felt like to me. Reading The Night Before Christmas while my imagination went crazy thinking that Santa was probably on the roof or in my living room at that very moment! Well, yesterday I did it. I officially submitted my mission papers.
I am truly excited! My heart is full. I haven't felt this much joy since I blew up the death star.

I feel relieved. I feel proud. I feel healthy. I feel grateful.

I want to focus on that last one for this post, if you please. And if you don't please... Too late. I'm already writing...

So, stretch your mind way back to the 28th of May. I wrote a post about an event in my life that was a bit of a game changer. Denial. I was denied being able to go on a mission because I was too fat.
It was a very hard moment in my life. One of the hardest. No one wants to hear news like that. It's just, news like that will constantly follow you if you're not taking care of yourself.
Anyway, I wasn't happy with the news. But I wasn't going to whine about it and do nothing and abandon my dream of serving a mission. So I didn't.

That night I published that awful post was an amazing one. I've never felt such love from so many people. Everyone showed there care, concern, and genuine kindheartedness. Some shared their own personal experiences with me about their struggles with their weight that they've had throughout their lives. I was touched. I was so grateful. Grateful for the wonderful friends and family I have. I have never seen so much love towards me.
The love from that night continued for many months. As I slowly dropped pound after pound the love was still there. Even more so than that one night. It touches me very deeply to know I have such friends who can so willingly offer their help and their encouragement.
To those who commented on that blog post, I read those often when I was feeling low. Your words inspired me to get right back up on that horse again. They were important to me on so many levels.
I could not have done it as easily without all of you who gave your support to me. Who encouraged and complimented me. Who kept tabs on me. Who were willing to go that "extra mile." Who were kind enough to invite me on bike rides every night. *Cough* Melissa *Cough* Jordan *Cough* and Harry *Cough*

So I would like to take this moment and offer a huge "thank you" to all of my friends and family! Thank you so much! I am so grateful to all of you and you should know that you have a special place within my heart. I will always remember your kindness! And if you ever need anything, well, you know where to find me... Unless it involves spiders... I don't like spiders.

Now, most importantly, I must give thanks to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I really couldn't have done it with out their guidance in my life. I could do nothing of worth without their guiding hands to point me in the right direction. Without their unending love to comfort me. I am who I am because of the influence of Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ, in my life. After all, they are what brought you guys to me.

To quote C.S. Lewis...

I'll say it again because it can't be said enough.

Okay, I haven't posted in quite some time. And I can't really say it's because I'm busy because, let's face it, I have no life. It's really because I'm a lazy blogger.

I came home from Utah and brought home tons of pictures. Don't worry, it's all just Mackey and Me being stupid. McIntyre died so much... So much.

... And then I find out that the studio making the PD comics was shut down and now they have to continue elsewhere and I crawl back into my hole of sadness... Still, it's awesome.

Woot! It's time for another glorious trip to the land of... Something specific to Utah... Dry skin? Sure, let's go with that. Yep, I'm off to Utah! This time for a graduation and not for a wedding. Either way, It's sure to be a blast. I loves the Utah. I'm sure I'm going to see a lot of friends and family.

And I would like to lend a huge congratulations to my sister, Ashley, for putting in a ton of work and graduating! So, Congratulations. You're an amazing sister and a wonderful friend. And purty to boot!

So good to see you again! Are you pleased to see me? I thought not.

Today is a pretty big milestone for this blog. Two hundred, count 'em, two hundred posts.
It's quite big, really. I have only a few things lined up for the post and it should be fun!

First, allow this caluminous toad-spotted miscreant (Shakespeare, you're great!) to take you back a little bit. All the way back to Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at precisely 6:21 PM. That was the moment I pushed the orange button which held the words 'publish post' on my inaugural post into this newfangled hoo-ha known as the blogosphere. What malarkey!

Is this thing on?

I didn't really expect to do this any time soon, but...

Short, sweet, and not even to the point... It's not even sweet. Yep, that's my first blog post. The night I created this blog wasn't anything special. As a matter of fact, it was pretty un-special.
I was sitting at home alone. I was looking through blogs by my friends, favorite artists, and family members, and I had a random thought. I could make one of these. Imagine that in the most un-special way possible. That isn't to say I didn't put effort into this blog of mine. I spent a good while figuring out what I was going to do with my blog. I didn't want it to be too personal. I wanted as little of my personal life as possible. I just wanted to make a place where others, and I, could go to just have fun and be happy. I could post pictures, videos, stories, ideas, and random tangents without the interference of the outside world. (I was doing pretty good up until recently)

The attachment that came with the blog was unexpected. I honestly thought this would last about a month until I got bored. Obviously, and quite pleasantly, I was wrong. I have stuck with it! And you weirdos have stuck with me!

I would like to thank all of my loyal readers! I hope you've had fun so far! If you haven't, I screwed up my end of the deal and I'll never get that Partridge Family box set...

Anyway, It's sharing time! Here are some treats for you to celebrate this wonderful occasion!

Plateau'd!

Hi everybody!
Here is a quick update before we get to the good part.
Okay, I'm sure you all remember this post. Well, I wrote that on the very eve of what I was told repeatedly was a plateau. I didn't lose any weight at all for almost two weeks. I gained a few but I lost those easily. I just could not get past the the number I stopped at. Needless to say, I am now back on top. Seven pounds in just three days vanished faster than tasteful entertainment in an episode of Glee. So, I think I'm back on track.

I really wanted to post some artwork from the past weeks. It's only a few but I'm proud of them.

Some very close friends of mine asked me to do a few pictures for their home and they weren't specific about what they wanted beside the style of the pictures. I love the freedom. That's all I ask when people ask me to work for them. Give me freedom. It also helps if you don't ask me to draw you right away. Kind of annoying...
Anyway. Here is the first piece I did.

The McInroe family: The nicest around. That's them in their actual real life outfits.

The next piece I had so much fun working on. A dollar theater. Nothing too special. Just an old, gross dollar theater. This actually was something I was just doing on the side until those McInroe's saw it. So, they asked for it and I personalized it with the movies they wanted on the front billboard.

So much fun... For me anyways...

This last piece is just a little somethin' somethin'. A swanky cocktail party. No biggie.

I had fun again.

Okay, I haven't been looking forward to this post. But I feel like it must be posted.

As you know, my blog is a happy place. A place where you can just enjoy a few moments of each day laughing at a video or enjoying my wonderful sense of humor (wink)
I called it the right place... not only because it's the best place on the internet (wink) but because it puts you in a right place. Makes you happy for a moment or two... I hope... And a little self-promotion never hurt...
All I'm saying is that this post will get a little serious... It will lead to a happier end, though.

Still here? Nope? I'll continue anyway...

For those of you who have met me, well, I'm certainly not the smallest person. Both in height and width. We all know this. It's been a problem I've had for pretty much as long as I can remember. I've been overweight for most of my life. There are only a few people in this world who have seen me when I was a skinny little boy. All the rest have known the Mason I am today. Still cheery, goofy, funny, and a friend... (Again) I hope... But worst of all, fat.

At a recent event I was attending I had the displeasure of hearing myself be described to someone so they could find me in a room.
"He's tall, loud, balding, and fat." I didn't know who they were looking for until I heard the description. Even I knew how to spot me in a crowd. It had become as though this flaw was a permanent part of my personality. Not only was it a part of me physically I felt as though it had become a part of me mentally. Like if you had told me to lose weight I felt like was being attacked or insulted. Weird stuff.

You're off the edge of the map, you're sure you want to continue? Alright.

"Dead men tell no tales..!"

Anyway, recently I've had a bit of a change up. I have found out that I cannot go on my mission until I lose a certain amount weight. This news was not shocking. I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that I was not going to be able go just yet.
I was told by my parents that the bishop said I can't go unless I lose the weight. I went home that night, we were at Mackey's baseball game, went to my room and sat. I sat down for a while. I was thinking.
I was thinking about how I let myself do this. How I let myself go so badly. The first thirty minutes was me beating myself up. I was angry at myself. Furious that I had screwed up so royally that my own church had to tell me that I was too fat.
I broke my own heart.
After I thoroughly and viciously tarred and feathered my own mind I found myself on my knees. Praying for help. My thoughts were clear and precise.
"Help me learn to love this." Referring to the new path I was about to take. After I finished my prayer I picked myself up, literally and figuratively speaking, and my mind was different. I knew I wanted to do this. I knew I was going to do this and, come Hell or high water, I was going to accomplish my goal.
Since that night I have put myself on health watch. I have put myself on a food budget. I have added more strenuous exercise to my days and have been amazingly blessed. I've lost over twenty pounds and I'm still dropping. I had a bit of a slow start with all of the wedding open houses we had but immediately picked it right back up and lost eleven pounds just from last Saturday!
I'm in an extremely good place right now and I intend to stay that way.
I'm on my way!

Way back in February I went with my very best friends to Walt Disney World. This was the first time that they had taken their two year old daughter to this magical place. They brought me along because I can guide an expedition through the treacherous lands.

We went and enjoyed our pizza and when we came back he was at the back door! I guess he wanted to thank us.

Well, I did take your advice and attend a wedding. A wedding that has been far overdue.

Cluster birthday attack!

I'm going to address three birthdays. One belated, one on time, and one early.

Belated:

Two Sundays ago was a wonderful woman's birthday. She has invited myself and my family in to her home whenever we visit. A wonderful hostess, always. Has Great taste in pretty much everything! She has raised a beautiful family of four spunky girls (Too bad, she's taken). And can always make you smile... Not to mention she can compliment the day lights out of you.

I'm talking about the amazing Trilby Cope!

Next up is one of those spunky girls that Trilby did such a good job of raising. Coryn Cope!

She is an absolutely amazing friend. Has a tremendous sense of humor and style. She's as quirky and beautiful as Charlotte "Chuck" Charles and Amelie Poulain all rolled into a red haired package. She is Currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Paris, France. She is also Code Red from The Creative Adventures of Code Red and Sketch.

Last, but certainly not in the slightest bit least, is Caitlyn Cope!

Yes, she has also come from that same amazing family. I have only met her once, sadly, but once was enough to understand that she is just as awesome as advertised! Caitlyn has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard and can sing your socks off. A sense of humor and style that always seems to emanate from this family like extremely awesome B.O. you wish would grace your armpits. Her beauty makes pieces of gorgeous art cry of jealousy.

Okay, for those of you who thought that I only found other artists inspiring, think again!
My inspirations come from a variety of mediums. I watch my favorite television shows (Psych, White Collar, Pushing Daisies, etc, etc...) to become inspired. I watch my favorite movies (Big Fish, Up, Howl's Moving Castle, The Great Dictator, etc, etc...) as well.

Music. Music is something that inspires me all on it's own. I love a variety of different music. I love pretty much every genre... Music that stands out to me the most, however, is the music that can be found in my favorite films and television.

Music inspired by the art, as I like to call it. Music from film is my absolute favorite thing to listen to. Because it is nothing but pure emotion. Pure conveyance of feelings. When I sit down to draw, write, edit, or just to think, I'll always have one of my favorite composers by my side... Or, rather, in my ears...

So, the first composer I would like to spotlight is someone not a lot of you may know. I have followed him since I first was inspired by his work on my all-time favorite show. This is, of course, Pushing Daisies. Which means I'm talking about Jim Dooley.

So, back in 2007, when Pushing Daisies premiered I was overjoyed because this show had everything I love. Comedy, romance, beautiful visuals, macabre magic, stylized deaths, and detective work... Oh, and pie. But most of all, a killer soundtrack.
The music for this show is unlike anything I've ever heard. It captured feelings in a beautiful Yann Tiersen way. And it conveyed actions and reactions the likes of old Looney Tunes and Disney cartoons. Amazingly playful, comical, imaginative, yet soft and sweet at times. Needless to say, the second they released a first season soundtrack, I bought it.

Who's Smoking?

After I searched his name I found some earlier works. Namely, The Position Music Orchestral Series.
This music is specially composed for film trailers and the like. I loved it all so much I may have made a movie to one of the pieces... You know it as SANTA BEGINS.

Recently he released a soundtrack which paired him up with Mickey Mouse. A video game called Epic Mickey. He was able to take his incredible skills and put them forth to make some new, as well as retool some old, sounds. If you thought It's a Small World was creepy before, yeesh...
Again, his style is evident. He's done quite a few video games but I think this one is his best.

Anyway, he's awesome. Even as I'm writing this I have the Pushing Daisies: Season 2 soundtrack playing. Seeing as how it was released today, I couldn't not write about this guy. If you're a fan of Jim, the show, or you just love music, pick up this soundtrack. It's incredible.

His music is inspiring because I like to think that the way he composes is what my thoughts and ideas sound like. His music can transport you to another world. It is another world. It something special and I hope to see more of him in the future. I hope you do too!

No, no, no. I'm not doing more Death-a-Day stuff. I'm merely talking about my brother McIntyre.
He has died... Several times... On Vacations... Because it's tradition.

Whenever we go on vacations Mac has to die on something in a photo. Don't ask me when this got started. All I know is that he does it on every trip and it never ceases to be funny.

So, due to the nature of this tradition, dying on things in photos, I obviously have photographic evidence.

Well, welcome back to my blog that has been neglected for quite awhile now... Otherwise known as "The Right Place"
2010 was a very nice year. I had a wonderful time blogging for all of my dearest friends who choose to read this dribble... Also known as my thoughts.

So, I thought I would provide you with a nonsensical, whimsical, fever inducing look back at the year known as 2010!

In 2010 I made some goals with the help of my friends.
I became very Musically inclined with the help of one Trilby Cope.
I posted about a dream I have and it became my most visited post to date.
We have the same taste in movies.
Mike Mignola Dropped by.
100!
Made it to the big apple and visited Tim Burton.
Became very Proud of My friend.
Suffered from Writer's Block.
Knew I wasn't crazy!
Had the time of my life.
Met a good man.
Had a case of the yearns...
Realized kids grow up too fast...
Created my favorite Red, White, and Black.
My best friend turned Eighteen!
I died... 31 times.
Said Au Revior!
Found out I wasn't that good when I was that age!
Made it to the Mouse.
Found out what I should be eating.
Heard wonderful news.
Discovered hidden truths.

Yes, here it is, my vacation-brag-about. It's been long awaited... By me...

So last month I went on a two week vacation to Florida. Went to Walt Disney World and then went to a resort in palm beach.
Here are the highlights

Animal Kingdom.
This day was so nice. Everything went flawlessly. Saw great animals and got on Expedition Everest like nine times. So, yeah, good day.

Another perfect (Two) day(s) (We went twice) Did everything at least twice. Rock 'N' Rollercoaster was just as good as I remembered. And Tower of Terror was, as always, terrific. And then we hit the Spectacle of Dancing Lights!

Epcot
Well, whaddya know, another perfect day. Nice, cold, and windy. Soarin' was great... Again. The Seas with Nemo and Friends was amazing. Test Track was... Well, fast. The food was delicious (We ate our way through the world showcase. Stopped in every country) Sushi, Egg rolls, Frankfurters, Quiche, Taco salad, Fish and Chips. So delicious.

My only complaint was that even though the food part of the Food and Wine Festival was delicious. The wine, or rather, the people drinking the wine was a little uncomfortable. Lotta drunk people.

Magic Kingdom / Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.
What else can I say? More perfect days. I can't even name all of the fun things to do here! We did all of them though.

The Haunted Mansion was the one I was most excited for, I would have to say.

And on another night we returned to the magic kingdom for Mickey's very Merry Christmas Party. Free hot chocolate and cookies all night. Christmas music plays throughout the night and decorations were everywhere!

And then it was awkward family photo time.

So, after the exhausting first half of out vacation came the very, VERY relaxing other half in Palm Beach which can be summed up in one picture...

I EMERGE VICTORIOUS!!!

Maybe it's the fact that I just came off my Disney World trip. Maybe it's the fact that his birthday was yesterday. Or It's merely a coincidence...
I'm posting about Mickey again.

I doubt you remember all the way back to October Sixth of last year so I will refresh your memory.

I stated that I am not much a video game player. I'm really not. I play Wii sports occasionally. That's it.
But I have been following the development of this game for a long time.
Mainly because I am a Mickey Mouse fan. Not Todays Mickey Mouse. He's kind of... Shall we say... Lame.
I'm a fan of when he was more like Donald Duck. Prone to anger and, more importantly, mischief. This game aims to bring Mickey back to his roots of being a mischievous little mouse.

They've also added another animation gem to the game; Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Walt Disney's first creation. As Mickey's resentful older brother.

I've been very involved in this developing because it has involved everyone at Disney and Pixar. John Lassetter even came up with the idea of Oswald as the older brother who is a bit jealous of his younger brothers success.

I'll just let you guys see for yourselves.

I think we need to take a little break from the Death-a-Day stuff for right now. Because I want to show you guys what I've been up to.
I've been busy making a little gift for a little girl (and family) who means a lot to me. That gift is a book I wrote and illustrated. It's a little poem called "Russell's Halloween"

Russell's Halloween is about a little dog named Russell who gets invited to a coworker's Halloween party... Oh yeah, his coworkers are Werewolves... Naturally, Russell thinks he won't fit in.

I had so much fun working on this gift. It was all worth it when I got to read it to her. It was quite nice. Especially when she pointed out puppy and "big puppy"

It was quite worth it.

Welcome back, everybody!

It is my pleasure to now introduce you to my Halloween surprise.

It was no accident that Edward Gorey was the post before this. Because he kind of inspired me to do this little activity.

So, without further ado, I present to you a multi media experience that I have dubbed

Grayson Manning's Deaths of October!

And what happens during this whole month of October is I will give to you a variety of videos, photos, and sketches of various deaths every day. One per day! They will range from the tragic to the funny. The gruesome to the kid friendly. The planned and unplanned... Maybe not that last one.

As most people know I have a very dark sense of humor most of the time. Especially during October. You didn't get to see it last year at this time because I didn't want to immediately alienate my followers. SO BE PREPARED. I don't really like to spare any drops of blood... MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

So, to start of this event and this great month I give you the first of the series. And a Gashlycrumb tribute!

Edward Gorey!

Edward Gorey (1925-2000) was probably the first artist I ever admired. I enjoyed his artwork as well as his literary pieces. But his artwork is truly a sight to see.

Wonderfully grim. My favorite pieces, and if you know me or are familiar with his work this will be no surprise, are The Gashlycrumb Tinies.

The Gashlycrumb Tinies is a book about twenty six children, each representing a letter of the alphabet, and their different deaths. Weird, gruesome, dark... but in some weird and delightful way it's enjoyable. Especially when seen with his illustrations. Here are a few of my favorites.

This next one is my personal favorite.

I find the imagery quite humorous.
So, if you're intrigued and want to see more LOOK HIM UP! He's quite a talent.
