Music-Market with Mason.

Hello everyone.
Little bit of background before I start. As an artist (If I can call myself that) I spend a lot of time drawing alone. When I was younger I used to always draw in silence. Music wasn't really my thing. I liked music, mostly soundtracks, I just didn't ever listen to it often. I always thought that film scores were something to be ashamed of liking... Not sure why... Then one day, I cannot remember when, I started getting into all sorts of music.
Nowadays, I am listening to a lot. Every time I draw, write or work out I have to have something to listen to.

My love of music is very evident in the way I draw. For those of you who have been paying attention to my Red, White and Black series, I am going to let you in on a little secret. Each picture has a song, rather, a theme to it. Music is a very integral part of my process. Both with my art and, of course, my movies.

So, I love music... I was just a late bloomer ;)

Now, let's kick off this post with my top five last played songs.
    Song                         Artist                    Album
1. Bird of the Summer. by A Fine Frenzy. Bomb in a Birdcage.
I love her voice. I love the story this song tells. Definitely worth a listen.

2. Discombobulate. by Hans Zimmer. Sherlock Holmes Soundtrack.

This album is one of the best I have ever heard. This song is an excellent example of Hans Zimmer's range and talent. If ever a song could describe the character of Sherlock Holmes, this is the one.

3. Decatur, or, Round of Applause for Your Step Mother . by Sufjan Stevens. Illinois
Is a soft little song that could put me to bed at any given time... I think it has. Lovely
4. Main Title. by Aaron Zigman & Alexandre Desplat. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
When I watched this movie I loved it. Didn't think I would, to be honest. Something that also caught my eye, er, ear, I guess, was the wonderful music. Both of these composers have become my favorites!
5. Now You Has Jazz. by Louis Armstrong & Bing Crosby. Louis Armstrong at M-G-M
I dare anyone to say that don't like listening to Louis Armstrong play his trumpet. C'mon, I dare ya! This song is a favorite of mine. I love Jazz.
So, if you have listened to any of these songs or listened to them after I recommended them to you, I would love to hear from you! I ask that you share any of your favorites so that I may have a listen and possibly buy and write about.

I hope these posts are worth reading.

Yours truly,
Mason.

  2. Yea! Your music-market:) Your story sounds a bit like Coryn's in regard to music listening. She has gone crazy over music in the last few years. (She introduced me to "A Fine Frenzy" and you have now introduced me to Sufjan Stevens.)

Love anything Hans Zimmer. Mr. Magorium's Soundtrack is gorgeous. And I LOVE jazz and Louis A.!

  3. I love Mr Magorium's! Both the movie and the music. And Hans Zimmer! One of my music heroes! I will have to check out the Sherlock Holmes CD (and see the movie!) You have excellent taste in music. And I know what you mean about drawing to music, that inspires me, too.

    Keep up the awesomeness.
